Recent rises <\/strong>in the price <\/strong>of electrical energy<\/strong> have drawn incredible attention to Italian Electricity Markets. These marketplaces have experienced drastic changes<\/strong> in past years, mainly driven by the desire<\/strong> to transition <\/strong>to a more sustainable and green economy<\/strong>, which entailed the growing diffusion<\/strong> of power plants fueled by non-programmable Renewable Energy Sources<\/strong>. Indeed, these units are able to produce much cheaper <\/strong>and cleaner <\/strong>energy than traditional CCGT power plants but are causing a sharp increase<\/strong> in the measures required for the regulation of the Power System, with balancing resources<\/strong> that have to be procured by Terna, the Italian Transmission System Operator (TSO), on the Ancillary Services Market (MSD)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prediction and interpretation of bids in the Italian Electricity Market for Ancillary Services<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

My Master\u2019s thesis has the aim to provide a wide-ranging<\/strong> analysis of MSD<\/strong>, thanks to a thorough study<\/strong> of the offer profiles <\/strong>submitted by the Production Units operating in Northern Italy. The obtained results combine the technical knowledge<\/strong> of the departments of Energy and Mathematics<\/strong> of Politecnico di Milano<\/strong> and the practical experience<\/strong> on electricity markets of the Research Institute RSE<\/strong>, which supported the initial portion of the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work is focused on the specific service denoted as “GR1” on MSD ex-ante<\/strong>, considering bids of both upward and downward types. These offers <\/strong>will be interpreted <\/strong>on the basis of many predictors<\/strong>, including both endogenous and exogenous data to the electricity markets. My findings confirmed the intricacy of the market MSD and showed how different operators<\/strong> tend to manage their power plants in various
ways<\/strong>, with disparate degrees<\/strong> of both variability <\/strong>and effectiveness <\/strong>of the submitted bids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
